about the therapist

Sera Turgut, M.Ed., NCC, APC, completed her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of West Georgia; she is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Associate Professional Counselor (APC) working toward her full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Sera has worked with a broad spectrum of clients and issues, and has experience working with children through seniors within a variety of settings, including individual, parent, family, and group sessions. She is knowledgeable about both the mind-body and brain-gut connections, which is why she emphasizes holistic treatment and uses a variety of approaches. Her passion is helping clients transform themselves, their relationships, and their lives, and for helping those who seek relief and recovery from codependent and toxic relationships. (For a complete list of specialties and areas of support, please visit the About Therapy page.)

Sera knows that feeling wholly accepted and supported is healing and powerful in itself, so building a strong relationship with her clients is her first priority. Her sessions focus on developing self-awareness and self-confidence by exploring emotions, beliefs, behaviors, life history and patterns, relationships, and environmental factors; providing psychoeducation; establishing meaning and purpose; and introducing healthy coping skills and lifestyle changes.

Sera is foundationally trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). She utilizes a DBT-informed approach, incorporating DBT principles and interventions as needed. Currently, she is in the process of completing all of the required trainings for Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which she utilizes solely with individuals.

Lastly, Sera believes that her clients are experts of their own inner experiences and that, by creating the appropriate conditions, clients are naturally able to grow. Her goal is for her clients to leave therapy feeling self-empowered and resilient.

Sera currently works under the Clinical Direction of Crystal Gillery, LMFT at CURA Couples and Family Therapy Center of Atlanta and the Clinical Supervision of Diane Levy, Ph.D., NCC, LPC, CPCS, ACS at Advanced Counselor Training and Supervision, LLC.
